Stefanie Abderhalden is a flutist and private lesson instructor living in Downers Grove, Illinois. A versatile flutist, Stefanie performs a variety of solo, chamber, and ensemble repertoire throughout the United States. She maintains an active music studio with students of all ages and levels.

As a performer Stefanie can be heard regularly in solo and chamber recitals and as a member of the Fox Valley Orchestra flute section. Stefanie also has performed with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Heartland Festival Orchestra, DuPage Symphony Orchestra, Evanston Symphony Orchestra, Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra, Wheaton Municipal Band, and the Midwest Philharmonic Orchestra.

Stefanie is a strong advocate for new music. During her 2015-2016 performing season she led a consortium of flutists commissioning composer Roy D. Magnuson to write the piece “The Flibbertigibbet’s Fabrefaction Volume 1” for solo flute. She also premiered Robert Fleisher’s “Five Pieces for Flute and Percussion” with percussionist Kyle Flens at Northern Illinois University. Stefanie also toured in Illinois with ensemble G.P. (flutist, Jennifer Wilhelms) performing concerts of new music. From 2011-2014 she performed with the Apollo Duo and was part of commissioning four new pieces for flute and percussion by composers Patrick O’Shea, Nathan Daughtrey, Jason Cress, and Danielle Fisher. The duo released an album of new music titled “Genesis” that was commercially released in 2015 (Avid Sound Records, ASR 20151).

Besides performing, Stefanie is a private music instructor with over 10 years of teaching experience working with students of all ages and abilities. As the graduate assistant at Illinois State University, Stefanie taught collegiate level flute students and coached flute chamber ensembles. She currently teaches flute and piano privately out of her home studio as well as at Quinlan and Fabish Music Company in Burr Ridge, Illinois and in the Plainfield, Illinois public school district. Stefanie frequently judges IHSA solo and ensemble contests and has assisted at numerous flute and band camps throughout Illinois.

In addition to her performing schedule and teaching commitments, Stefanie is treasurer for the Chicago Flute Club. She is also a member of the Musicians Club of Women and the National Flute Association.

A native of the Chicagoland area, during her early years Stefanie was a student of pianist, Betty Laning, and flutist, Cate Hummel. During her collegiate years, Stefanie attended Illinois State University receiving a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in flute performance. Her primary teacher was Kimberly McCoul Risinger; she also studied with Elivi Varga and Christa Krause.
